Brazil's TIM Par 1Q Net Loss BRL144 Million Vs BRL125.5 Million Loss

Brazilian mobile phone company TIM Participacoes SA (TSU) late
Tuesday reported a first quarter net loss of 144 million Brazilian
reals ($67 million), compared with a loss of BRL125.5 million
registered in the year earlier period.
The company attributed its net loss in the period to an increase
in amortizations and taxes.
First-quarter net revenue totaled BRL3.01 billion, up from
BRL2.99 billion in the same period the year before, according to
the company's earnings release.
The Brazilian unit of Telecom Italia SpA (TI) said its earnings
before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, or Ebitda,
was up 14.4% on the year to BRL609.4 million. Ebitda margin was
20.2%, up from 17.8% in the same quarter last year.
TIM ended the first quarter with 36.1 million clients, up 11%
from the same period of 2008.
