Spanish oil firm Repsol YPF SA (REP) Monday denied it held a meeting July 30 with China National Petroleum Corp. and Cnooc Ltd. (CEO) over the sale of Repsol's Argentine unit YPF SA.

A Repsol press official earlier Monday had declined to comment on whether such a meeting had been held.

CNPC and Cnooc have proposed paying at least $17 billion for all of Repsol's stake in YPF, and discussed their offer with Repsol executives on July 30 in Europe, two people close to the supposed talks had said.
