Mexican carrier Mexicana said Monday that it plans to join the Oneworld airline alliance in November.

Mexicana said in a press release that its low-cost airline, Click Mexicana, and regional carrier Mexicana Link will join the alliance as affiliates. Iberia (IBLA.MC) sponsored Mexicana's entry into the group.

The company said it expects to achieve competitive and financial benefits by joining the alliance while contributing new destinations, including 24 in Mexico.

Once the airline joins the alliance Nov. 10, its passengers will be able to clock up frequent-flyer miles when traveling with other member carriers, which include AMR Corp. (AMR) unit American Airlines, British Airways (BAY.LN) and Iberia.

Likewise, those airlines' customers will be able to register and redeem miles on Mexicana.

Mexico's other major carrier, Aeromexico, is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, which includes Delta (DAL), Air France (AF.FR), Continental (CAL) and others.
