Smithfield-Luter Foundation Partners with Johnson & Wales University to Establish Scholarships SMITHFIELD, Va., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The Smithfield-Luter Foundation announced today that it has contributed $25,000 to Johnson & Wales University to establish a scholarship fund for Smithfield Foods, Inc. employees' children and grandchildren. The Smithfield-Luter Foundation will contribute $25,000 annually to the university for the next three years, totaling $100,000 over a four-year period. Founded in 2001 by Smithfield Foods chairman and chief executive officer Joseph W. Luter, III, the Smithfield-Luter Foundation is a non-profit organization, that provides scholarships for the dependent children and grandchildren of full-time or retired employees of the Smithfield Foods, Inc. family of companies. The amount of each scholarship is determined by the university's financial aid office and does not exceed the cost of tuition, course-related fees, books, supplies and equipment for the student.
