TRUCK Safety will feature specialized sessions focusing on underride crashes. Underride crashes result in catastrophic injuries and fatalities.

LEXINGTON, Ky., May 23, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Truck Safety Coalition (TSC), the leading victim advocate organization working to save lives and prevent injuries from large truck crashes is pleased to announce its nationwide series of TRUCK (Training to Renew Underride Crash Knowledge) Safety Roadshows. The Roadshows will feature specialized sessions focusing on underride crashes. An underride crash occurs when a passenger vehicle slides under a tractor-trailer. TRUCK Safety Roadshows will take place across various cities nationwide beginning on May 23rd in Lexington, Kentucky.

"Underride crashes represent a serious threat to public safety. Together, we are taking proactive steps to mitigate the risks associated with these tragic crashes."

Underride crashes result in catastrophic injuries and fatalities. TRUCK Safety Roadshows are made possible by United States Department of Transportation grant funding and will help improve proper underride identification, documentation, and reporting. Underride crashes are chronically under-reported, and this training will help address this problem. Overall, truck crash fatalities have surged 88% since 2014 in Kentucky, posing a serious risk to all Kentuckians.

The Truck Safety Coalition is proud to partner with the Lexington Police Department to provide this training. Featured speakers will include TSC board members, victim volunteers, and staff. One vital component of the roadshow is a side underride guard working model to provide an in-depth overview of how this technology can work on commercial motor vehicles. Jennifer Tierney who lost her father, James Mooney, in a side-underride crash said, "It is the opportunity of a lifetime to share our stories and collaborate with local partners on the frontlines who can make a real difference on this important, life-saving issue."

Zach Cahalan, Executive Director of Truck Safety Coalition stated, "Underride crashes represent a serious threat to public safety. Together, we are taking proactive steps to mitigate the risks associated with these tragic crashes."

Truck Safety Coalition encourages law enforcement agencies, transportation officials, and other stakeholders to participate in these trainings and engage in our ongoing efforts to enhance truck safety.
