Virtual Sessions Bring Together Professional and Amateur Astronomers

FOLSOM, Calif., July 22, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- The Association of Lunar & Planetary Observers (ALPO) is pleased to announce that its 2024 Conference will be held virtually on Friday and Saturday, July 26 and 27, 2024. The Conference, accessible via Zoom, will be streamed live and will also be available on the Association's YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/c/AssociationofLunarandPlanetaryObservers.

Founded in 1947, the ALPO's annual Conference brings together professional and amateur astronomers from around the world to discuss their collection and analysis of observations made throughout the year. Technical presentations will be made by ALPO members, and topics include Earth-based observations, observing techniques, and key discoveries made.  The 2024 Conference will feature noted author Robert Garfinkle as its keynote speaker. Mr. Garfinkle, a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, is the author of the recently published three-volume Luna Cognita, now considered one of the world's leading lunar observing references.

The Conference will begin at 10:00 am PT (1:00 pm ET) on July 26, and will feature seven 25 minute sessions ending at 2:00 pm PT (5:00 pm ET). Day one will conclude with the ALPO annual Board Meeting at 4:00 pm PT (7:00pm ET) and is open for any ALPO member to attend. Following Saturday's final session, two awards presentations will take place. The Conference will end following the keynote speaker address at 4:00 pm PT (7:00 pm ET).
