The chief executive of Italy's Fiat SpA (F.MI) Sergio Marchionne Monday met with General Motors Europe's Carl-Peter Forster, as well as chief of its German Opel unit, Hans Demant, in Ruesselsheim, a person close to the company told Dow Jones Newswires.

According to media reports, Marchionne will also meet the heads of government of the German state of Thuringia and North Rhine-Westphalia, Dieter Althaus and Juergen Ruettgers in the coming days.

Opel has plants in these states, which have promised state aid to potential investors.
