SYDNEY--Chemicals and explosives maker Orica Ltd. (ORI.AU) said Monday it had selected Russell Caplan to take over as chairman from January 2014, succeeding Peter Duncan who is due to retire.

Mr. Caplan is currently a non-executive director of Aurizon Holdings Ltd. (AZJ.AU) and chairman of The Melbourne & Olympic Parks Trust. He was previously chairman of Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSA) in Australia, and a non-executive director of Woodside Petroleum Ltd (WPL.AU).
