Interact Selects Brooktrout's SS7 Technology for ISIS Prepaid
Calling Platform NEEDHAM, Mass., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Brooktrout Technology, Inc., a leading supplier of media
processing, network interface, call control and signal processing
products, today announced that Interact Incorporated has selected
Brooktrout Technology's NS700(TM) SS7 platform for use in their
ISIS (Interact Signaling Interface Server) prepaid calling
platform. Catering to both fixed line and wireless operators,
Interact's switch-independent ISIS prepaid solutions can be
tailored to meet prepaid service provider's needs, is deployable in
either the Service Node or Intelligent Networking environment, and
allows for services such as prepaid calling cards and prepaid
mobile phones. (Logo:

is a company that has been a reliable resource of proven technology
and cooperative efforts for Interact, and has been a great
facilitator in the process of developing this solution," said Phil
VanBeveren, Director of Operations for Interact Incorporated.
"Throughout the development process, Brooktrout was dedicated to
providing us with whatever resources we required to make it work.
They made changes in their own developments to accommodate our
needs. In the end, we delivered a solution that we can confidently
insert, with or without our entire calling solutions, anywhere in
the world." Prior to partnering with Brooktrout, Interact utilized
a "drop-in" SS7 signaling unit purchased from a third party
manufacturer. While the unit accomplished the goal of SS7-enabling
their platform, it utilized a completely different operating system
from the rest of Interact's solutions, which encumbered the
integration process and made troubleshooting more difficult.
Utilizing Brooktrout's NS700 SS7 platform, Interact developed its
own SS7 signaling solution, with many improvements over the
previous solution. The new Interact ISIS runs on the same Linux
operating system and customized Interact software as do the rest of
Interact's enhanced calling solutions, allowing for seamless
integration into Interact's solution as a whole. This also meant
easier programming and management of the system, allowing greater
flexibility. Interact can adapt its ISIS unit to accommodate the
inevitable variations from the standard SS7 protocols that are
often experienced in the remote regions where their solutions are
occasionally installed. Having the ISIS run on customized software
and Linux also meant better integration into the network monitoring
aspects of Interact's solution, giving greater control for
administration and management purposes. The ISIS was designed from
the beginning to be deployed in dual-plane environment for enhanced
redundancy, a key requirement for carrier networks. This customized
solution utilizing Brooktrout's technology also allowed Interact to
be able to accommodate SNMP (Simple Network Messaging Protocol), a
standard that was not supported by the previous "drop-in" solution.
Being able to support this protocol was the final key ingredient to
Interact being able to provide a solution for any kind of network
in the world. Brooktrout Technology's NS700 product line provides
the industry's most robust SS7 feature set. Brooktrout's SS7
modules allow developers to leverage the capabilities of the SS7
network and develop carrier-grade applications for SS7
circuit-switched call control, SS7/IP convergence, GSM MAP SMS,
CDMA IS- 41, and INAP Intelligent Network devices. About Interact
