Putnam Investments and the Board of Trustees of the Putnam Funds today announced that the meeting of shareholders of Putnam Municipal Opportunities Trust previously called for February 25, 2010 has been rescheduled to April 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., Eastern Time, at the principal offices of the fund on the 8th floor of One Post Office Square, Boston, Massachusetts. The Board determined to change the date of the annual meeting in order to allow sufficient time to consider and respond to a shareholder proposal first received by the fund on December 23, 2009.

The meeting is now expected to consider a proposal to fix the number of Trustees at 14 and elect the fund's Trustees, as well as a shareholder proposal requesting that the Trustees consider converting the fund from a closed-end format to an open-end format.

Shareholders of record at the close of business on January 11, 2010 will be entitled to be present and to vote at the meeting or any adjourned meeting.
