SatCon Announces New Standard Product Line of Power Regulators
August 09 2006 - 7:55AM
Business Wire
SatCon Technology Corporation(R) (Nasdaq NM: SATC), today announced
that SatCon Electronics, a wholly owned subsidiary and designer and
manufacturer of high reliability electronic components has
introduced the SAT8600 series of Ultra-Low-Dropout linear
regulators designed specifically for "Point-of-Load" use in power
systems. Jack Worthen, SatCon Electronics President, stated, "This
new line of standard power products is another major accomplishment
toward our strategic initiative outlined in 2006 goals." Worthen
added, "These new devices will provide our Space and Military
customers with reliable and efficient solutions for post-regulation
when using DC-DC converter-based power." SatCon offers the only
Remote-Sense ULDO regulator on the market. This feature adjusts the
output for load variations due to line resistance and allows
placement of the regulator anywhere on the PCB. The new units are
available in 3A & 5A configurations covering most of the useful
application range of military linear regulators. They are available
in 5-pin leaded or lead-formed hermetic packages (MO-078).
Ultra-Low-Dropout post regulators are typically needed to drop bus
voltages from +5V or +3.3V to lower levels typically required by
highly integrated devices such as FPGA's, ASIC's, Logic, CPU's.
They provide an efficient means of converting bus power to a useful
level such as +2.5V, +1.8V or +1.5V. The ability to maintain
regulation at very low input voltage levels (+2.8V), minimizes
power dissipation and helps to conserve overall system power. Many
Rad-Hard FPGA's currently available, require supply voltages as low
as +1.5V with tolerances of +/- 5% over radiation and temperature.
The SatCon ULDO regulators will provide the required supply
voltages for these peripherals within the tolerances needed. They
are guaranteed to perform within 5%, over time, temperature (-55C
to +125C) and under the severe conditions of Space. These new
devices are available screened to H & K-Levels (MIL-PRF-38534),
simplifying qualification and time to project completion compared
to other custom-designed solutions. COTS (un-screened) devices are
also available for prototyping and/or use in applications not
requiring high reliability processing. SatCon Electronics is a
leader in design and manufacturing of high reliability power
management, analog signal processing, RF, and thin film components.
