State Auto Financial Corporation (NASDAQ:STFC) and State Automobile Mutual Insurance Company today announced that A.M. Best Co. has upgraded the rating of the insurance companies of the Rockhill Insurance Group to A+ (Superior) from A- (Excellent) following their addition to the intercompany pooling agreement of the State Auto Group.

The Rockhill Insurance Group, which includes Rockhill Insurance Company, American Compensation Insurance Company, Bloomington Compensation Insurance Company and Plaza Insurance Company, was acquired by State Automobile Mutual in February 2009.

“Rockhill is an important part of our new specialty insurance segment, giving us many commercial lines growth opportunities that we previously hadn’t been able to offer our independent agency partners,” said State Auto President, Chairman and CEO Bob Restrepo. “A.M. Best’s announcement affirms the value that State Auto offers Rockhill, further strengthening its market position for its distribution partners.”

Additionally, State Auto has appointed Jessica Buss, who had served as chief operating officer of Rockhill Insurance Group, as State Auto’s chief operating officer of specialty insurance. In her new role, Buss will be responsible for completing the integration of the business operations of Rockhill and RTW into State Auto.
