Huntington Ingalls Industries was awarded a fixed-price incentive, multi-year procurement contract to build six destroyers for the U.S. Navy.

The company's Ingalls Shipbuilding division will construct Arleigh Burke-class (DDG 51) destroyers, the company said. The contract includes options to build additional DDG 51 ships and for engineering, design and post-delivery efforts.

The Pascagoula, Miss.-based company said because of potential competition for the option to build additional ships the dollar value of the deal wouldn't be disclosed at this time.
