Banco Santander (Brasil) S.A., one of Brazil’s leading banks, today began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “BSBR” after its successful initial public offering in which it raised $7.0 billion. The Banco Santander (Brasil) IPO, which listed simultaneously in Brazil and the U.S., is the largest initial public offering ever conducted by a Brazilian company.

Banco Santander (Brasil) S.A. is the fourth company in the Banco Santander group to list on the NYSE, joining Banco Santander Chile (NYSE: SAN), Banco Santander Bancorp (NYSE: SBP), and Banco Santander Spain S.A. (NYSE: STD).

The NYSE currently lists 31 companies from Brazil, with a total global market capitalization of $443 billion, as of Sept. 30, 2009. Including Banco Santander (Brasil) S.A., the total market capitalization of NYSE-listed Brazilian companies is close to $500 billion (as of Oct. 7. 2009). Trading in Brazilian ADRs on the NYSE includes some of the most actively traded stocks on a daily basis, totaling almost $3 billion/day.
