Efficiency retrofits from Siemens Building Technologies delivers
energy savings and more BUFFALO GROVE, Ill., April 22 /PRNewswire/
-- With impeccable timing, prominent California utility Pacific Gas
& Electric (PG&E) today presented Monterey Peninsula
College's (MPC's) board with a $349,000 rebate check from its
Community Colleges and Universities Partnerships Program, an
incentive initiative that rewards schools for retrofitting campus
buildings with energy-efficient systems. The facility improvements
that prompted the PG&E rebate were part of a comprehensive
performance-based solution delivered last year by Siemens Building
Technologies, Inc. However, rebates are not the only return from
the community college's relationship with Siemens. Over the 10-year
life of the contract, MPC is guaranteed to save the equivalent of
more than $2.4 million in avoided annual energy costs. "This is a
win win," says MPC's Superintendent/President, Dr. Douglas
Garrison. "The rebate from PG&E will be used to help offset the
cost of energy efficient measures installed. Since Siemens audited
our campus and is nearing completion of the retrofit of our campus
buildings we will experience energy cost savings, better overall
control of facility environments and that will mean better student,
faculty and staff comfort, not to mention a significant reduction
in environmental emissions." Facility-wide energy efficiency
improvements -- system upgrades and other retrofits that are
central to PG&E's incentive program -- include new building
automation systems and controls, HVAC mechanical upgrades,
interior/exterior lighting upgrades, IT network management software
and vending machine controls and motion sensors. "We instituted the
Community Colleges and Universities Partnerships Program to prompt
just this kind of response and presenting Monterey Peninsula
College with one of largest rebates in the program's history seems
an entirely appropriate way to celebrate Earth Day here in
California," says PG&E Account Executive Rob Cruz. "Monterey
has taken a big step toward sustainability and proves good things
can happen with the right relationships and the will to act.
Congratulations!" With new systems operating as specified, energy
savings for all facilities are anticipated to reach 1,636,765 kWh
per year. According to Siemens Building Technologies' Greenhouse
Gas Emissions Calculator, this will reduce emissions of CO2 by
approximately 2.2 million pounds/year, take the equivalent of 336
passenger cars off the road, or preserve 1,287 acres of forest from
deforestation. As a leading provider of energy and environmental
solutions, building controls, fire safety and security systems
