Courts eliminate paper and streamline processes
with e-filing
Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) is experiencing strong
growth in the use of its Odyssey eFileGA™ solution, with the Fulton
County Magistrate Court becoming the third Fulton County court to
go live with eFileGA. The county’s superior and state courts
implemented eFileGA over the past 18 months.
With three Fulton County courts now electronically filing civil
cases, counties covering 43 percent of Georgia’s residents are in
the process of implementing or are live with eFileGA. Courts in
most of the Atlanta metro area are using eFileGA, including courts
in Cherokee, Clayton, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, and Rockdale
counties, with more coming, including Gwinett, Forsyth and Spalding
counties.
Courts using eFileGA are now contributing to the more than
125,000 documents and 75,000 cases that are filed daily with
Tyler’s e-filing solution nationwide.
Using eFileGA helps courts streamline processes, reduce costs
and save paper. Nationally, Tyler is seeing the number of
electronically filed transactions steadily rise while processing
times are getting faster, with many filings taking less than 60
seconds.
By providing court participants with simplified and immediate
access to court documents, Fulton County is using Odyssey eFileGA
to increase efficiency more effectively using taxpayer dollars.
This supports its strategic plan, which prescribes use of
“equipment and technology in a way that enables high
performance.”
Cathelene “Tina” Robinson, the Clerk of Superior and Magistrate
Court of Fulton County, championed the e-filing project to provide
court staff with better technology to automate court procedures and
increase constituent access.
“It is due to Clerk Robinson’s vision and dedication that our
courts have already seen tremendous value from Odyssey eFileGA,
mainly through enabling constituents to directly upload necessary
case documents, which has eliminated time-consuming processes for
our staff,” said Ché Alexander, court services bureau chief. “By
reducing the volume of paper used, we have automated several court
areas, while increasing court staff communication and
collaboration. We are pleased with e-filing’s benefits so far and
we are eager for the additional benefits ahead.”
Fulton County Magistrate Court went live with eFileGA in April
2016, following six months of implementation within Fulton County’s
courts. Odyssey eFileGA is delivered as a Tyler-hosted solution and
allows users to file documents with the courts 24 hours a day,
every day of the week.
In addition to leveraging eFileGA, the Fulton County Magistrate
Court is using Tyler’s Guide & File™ solution to improve access
to justice for local residents who are self-represented litigants
(SRLs). The Fulton Magistrate Court is using Guide & File to
provide web-based interviews that simplify court filing for SRLs.
This results in a reduction of erroneous filings as well as staff
time answering questions from filers outside the legal
profession.
“This project is a wonderful tool that anyone can use to more
easily navigate the court system. It is such a simple idea, but a
necessary one, allowing all equal access to our courts,” said Chief
Justice Hugh P. Thompson of the Georgia Supreme Court.
“Tyler is proud to use its extensive public sector experience to
help courts automate processes, offer constituents greater access
to the court, and vastly reduce the amount of tedious and costly
paper-driven work for court staff and their constituents alike,”
said Mitchell Spence, senior vice president of operations for
Tyler’s Courts & Justice Division. “Fulton County exemplifies
how forward-thinking judicial agencies are applying Tyler solutions
and our best practices to further enhance the breadth and quality
of services that are easy to access and use.”
Overall, Odyssey serves more than 100 million residents, a third
of the U.S. population, in more than 800 counties across 23 states.
With more than 550 full-time employees dedicated to courts and
justice solutions, Tyler has the capability to manage dozens of
Odyssey client implementations concurrently.
Fulton County is Georgia’s most populous county with more than 1
million residents; it includes 90 percent of Atlanta, the state
capital.
