                 Appointment of Non-executive Director

Northgate plc, the UK's leading light commercial vehicle hire company, is
pleased to announce that Mr Philip Rogerson has agreed to join the Board of the
Company as a Non-executive Director with immediate effect.

Mr Rogerson (58), a Chartered Accountant, is currently Non-executive Chairman of
Aggreko plc, Viridian Group plc and KBC Advanced Technologies plc. He is also a
Non-executive Director of Celltech Group plc.

Until 1998 he was Deputy Chairman of BG plc (formerly British Gas plc), having
been a Director since 1992. Prior to joining BG, he spent 14 years with ICI plc,
latterly as General Manager - Finance.

There are no disclosures required in respect of Philip Rogerson under paragraph
6.F.2(b) to (g) of the Listing Rules.
