Bell and Wan Named Senior Vice Presidents, Torres Appointed Vice
President, Conway Assumes Additional Responsibilities SAN
FRANCISCO, Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Pacific Gas and Electric
Company announced that its Board of Directors has elected Desmond
A. Bell as senior vice president, shared services and chief
procurement officer; Fong Wan as senior vice president, energy
procurement; and Albert F. Torres as vice president, customer
operations. In addition, John T. Conway senior vice president and
chief nuclear officer, also will assume responsibilities for
non-nuclear generation. "These appointments recognize the level of
talent and accomplishments among our existing officer team," said
Peter A. Darbee, Chairman, CEO and President of PG&E
Corporation and President and CEO of Pacific Gas and Electric
Company. "These experienced leaders have each played a critical
role in moving the company toward its vision of becoming the
leading utility in the United States, and we look forward to their
continued leadership contributions in their new roles." In his
role, Des Bell will continue his leadership and oversight of
Pacific Gas and Electric Company's supply chain, materials
operations, supplier diversity, transportation services, corporate
real estate, environmental, technical and land services work. Bell
joined Pacific Gas and Electric Company in March 2007 as vice
president and utility chief of staff. He has served as vice
president, shared services and chief procurement officer since
March 2008. He has more than 28 years of experience in operations
and strategic development, ranging from customer service to
engineering, manufacturing and supply chain management. Bell
previously served as vice president of Bombardier Aerospace's parts
logistics business in Montreal. He also held several senior general
management roles with Bombardier in Canada and Europe including
responsibility for business process transformation, Six Sigma and
business process integration. As senior vice president, energy
procurement, Fong Wan will continue to be responsible for gas and
electric supply planning and policies, market assessment and
quantitative analysis, supply development, procurement and
settlement. Wan joined Pacific Gas and Electric Company in 1988 as
a financial analyst, and spent six years in the Financial Planning
and Analysis organization. He then worked in the Gas Supply and
Electric Transmission business units, before moving to PG&E
Energy Trading in 1997. He served for four years as vice president,
risk initiatives of PG&E Corporation Support Services, Inc. and
was named vice president, power contracts and electric resource
development of Pacific Gas and Electric Company in May 2004. Wan
has served as vice president, energy procurement since January
2006. Al Torres' responsibilities as vice president, customer
operations, will encompass Pacific Gas and Electric Company's
revenue and credit collections, billing, and payment process
functions. Torres has more than 30 years of experience in various
capacities within Pacific Gas and Electric Company. He has served
as an engineer in the company's electric and gas distribution
systems, a division manager in its Customer Energy Services
organization, and most recently as senior director in its Customer
Operations organization. John Conway will assume responsibility for
all of PG&E's power generation assets, including nuclear,
fossil and hydroelectric as well as the strategic direction and
financial success in the following power generation sectors:
nuclear, fossil, hydroelectric, cogeneration and renewables. Conway
is responsible for the safe and reliable operations of Diablo
Canyon Power Plant and is the lead contact with the Nuclear
Regulatory Commission and the Institute of Nuclear Power
Operations. Conway most recently was senior vice president and
chief nuclear officer of PG&E. He previously served as site
vice president of the Monticello Nuclear Plant in Minnesota. He
spent 24 years at Nine Mile Point in Oswego, NY, where he held a
series of positions of increasing responsibility including the
senior executive role at the station, site vice president, vice
president of Nuclear Engineering, plant manager and operations
manager. He also served as the power ascension manager for the
initial startup testing program for Nine Mile Point Unit 2. All
