Volkswagen AG said Friday that vehicle deliveries declined in
the third quarter amid the semiconductor shortage that is affecting
automotive production world-wide.
The German car maker said total group deliveries to customers
fell 24.5% to 1.97 million vehicles in the three months to
September. However, in the first nine months of the year, global
group deliveries were up 6.9% to 6.95 million vehicles.
Volkswagen's delivery figures come after German peers Daimler AG
and BMW AG earlier this month also reported that their quarterly
vehicles sales have been hit by the chip shortage.
Daimler said world-wide sales at the auto maker's Mercedes-Benz
Cars division declined 30.5% to 434,784 vehicles during the
three-month period, while BMW AG's global sales for its BMW, MINI
and Rolls-Royce cars fell 12% on-year to 593,189 vehicles.
