HONG KONG--Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. (0293.HK) has agreed to buy 21 777-9X planes from U.S. aircraft maker Boeing as the Hong Kong-based carrier seeks to further expand its long-haul network.

The carrier, which didn't disclose the exact purchase price, said the combined list price of the 21 widebody jets is US$7.46 billion and that Boeing has granted it 'significant price concessions.'

The purchase of the 21 400-seat twin-engine jets is part of Cathay Pacific's effort to boost its long-haul destinations in North America and Europe amid a gradual global economic recovery.

It will begin taking deliveries of the aircraft from 2021.
