John Ohlin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Gold River
Productions (GRPS), Inc. (PINKSHEETS: GRPS), today announced it is
having exploratory discussions relative to the feasibility of
establishing a leased, manufacturing facility to build its all
composite "World Home" in Japan to reduce delivery time and
shipping expenses associated with overseas container shipping.
"The tragedy in Japan is almost beyond comprehension and it is
expected to require many months to just clear away the debris. We
expect it will require some months before full scale rebuilding
efforts get underway. That would afford us ample time to locate an
appropriate leased facility to manufacture our all composite 'World
Home,' acquire and move the manufacturing equipment to the facility
and begin operations."
Mr. Ohlin responds to recent questions from investors:
(Q) How large are the homes you intend to build?
(A) "We can produce housing in almost any size and
configuration, but for areas where smaller housing is the norm we
have concepts for a 400 sq. ft. (1 bed/bath) unit and a 600 sq. ft.
(2 bed/1bath) unit that are rectangular in shape."
(Q) Can the units be used in high rise construction?
(A) "For a project we considered in the Philippines the concept
was to build a 10 story, 40 unit configuration with an earthquake
hardened steel skeleton (superstructure), a central core consisting
of an elevator/stairway and utilities. The units would be assembled
on the ground and would then be 'plugged' into one of the four bays
on each level. The forty units per building could be assembled and
installed in just a few days after the steel 'skeleton' was
completed. It's then an easy job to face the exterior of the
building in a manner keeping with local customs/tradition."
(Q) How difficult would it be to manufacture the housing units
in Japan?
(A) "The units can be made anywhere. If produced in a location
other than where they will be used, they can be shipped flat in a
shipping container and assembled on site. All we need is a stable
source of electricity and work force. Labor cost is typically a
driving factor in construction cost so where we build the units
will be relative to the cost/benefit ratio determined by the
customer." However, the time factor plays heavily into this
equation, hence locating a suitable manufacturing facility will be
important once and if the green light is given to this project.
(Q) How many housing units can you build per month?
(A) "The three presses we can immediately acquire for this
project would allow us to produce approximately 400 - 500 housing
units per month depending on the size of the units produced."
