LISLE, Ill., Oct. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- KONE, a global
leader in the elevator and escalator industry, received the best
possible score of 100 in the CDP 2014 reporting. Only five
companies out of the 260 covered by the CDP Nordic report were able
to reach full 100 points. The high score indicates excellent data
management, transparent communication and understanding of climate
change-related issues affecting the company – from solutions to the
company's own operations and the whole supply chain.
The company's result has risen steadily for five consecutive
years. KONE is also included in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership
Index (CDLI) for the fourth year running. CDLI highlights companies
providing transparency in their disclosure of climate-related
information, and lists the top 10 percent of the companies included
in the CDP Nordic report.
"These results reflect our efforts to further improve our
environmental excellence and be the most eco-efficient company in
our industry," said Larry Wash, CEO
of KONE Americas. "We are very proud of our achievements in
minimizing our carbon footprint, and I want to thank everyone who
has contributed to this great success."
KONE's long-term environmental objectives are to further improve
the eco-efficiency of its solutions, modernize existing elevators
and escalators to make them more energy-efficient, and to further
reduce the environmental impact of its operations – especially its
carbon footprint. For instance in 2013, KONE succeeded in
decreasing the company's relative operational carbon footprint by
3.5% compared to the previous year. This was achieved by improving
the logistics operations and vehicle fleet, by reducing electricity
consumption, and by increasing the use of virtual meeting
tools.
In addition to carbon disclosure, CDP evaluates companies on
their performance in mitigating climate change on a scale of A to
E. KONE's score is A-, the same as in the previous year. Scores
from A to B are considered high performance.
CDP is an international, not-for-profit organization providing
the only global system for companies and cities to measure,
disclose, manage and share vital environmental information. CDP
works with market forces, including 768 institutional investors
with assets of USD 92 trillion, to
motivate companies to disclose their impacts on the environment and
natural resources and take action to reduce them. CDP now holds the
largest global collection of primary climate-change, water and
forest risk commodities information.
"Global greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise and we face
steep financial risk if we do not mitigate them. The need for data
on corporate climate change impacts and strategies to reduce them
has never been greater. For this reason we congratulate those
businesses that have achieved a position on CDP's Climate
Disclosure Leadership Index. These companies are responding to the
ever-growing demand for environmental accountability and should
inspire others to follow suit," says Paul
Simpson, Chief Executive Officer of CDP.
