                           Transaction in own shares

Brightview plc announces that on 4 September 2007, it purchased for cancellation
250,000 of its ordinary shares at a price of 23.75 pence per share, in
accordance with the authority granted to it by shareholders at the Extraordinary
General Meeting held in connection with the disposal of the entire issued share
capital of Brightview Group Limited to British Telecommunications plc.

Following the purchase and upon cancellation of these shares, the number of
ordinary shares with voting rights in issue (excluding Treasury shares) will be
44,580,106 and the number of ordinary shares in Treasury will be 250,000.
