MILLER FISHER GROUP PLC
TRADING STATEMENT
On the 29 March 2000 the Board of Miller Fisher Group plc
("the Group") announced preliminary results for the year
ended 31 December 1999.
At that time the Board indicated that the Group had a mixed
start to the year, with the UK loss adjusting business in
particular experiencing a lower level of claims activity
than anticipated.
This trend has continued in the second quarter, and as
a result, revenues from our UK loss adjusting business for
the first six months have fallen materially short of levels
expected by the Board. The decline in claims activity in the
UK market this year appears to have been a common experience
for a number of other loss adjusting firms in the market.
The results for the rest of the Group for the half-
year, which are likely to be broadly in line with the
Board's expectations, will not be sufficient to make up for
the shortfall in the UK loss adjusting business. The Board
anticipates that the results for the Group as a whole for
the first six months to 30 June 2000 will show a loss and
therefore the profit for the year to 31 December 2000 will
be significantly below that reported for the
corresponding period last year.
The management of the Group has taken firm action to cut
the cost base of the UK loss adjusting
division to bring it into line with the current levels of
revenue. The Board expects that the effects of these
measures will start to come through in the second half
of the year and that the UK loss adjusting
division should then return to more normal levels of
profitability.
The Board of Miller Fisher Group plc is aware of the
need to maximise shareholder value, and is currently
reviewing the best ways in which this can be achieved.
