                  Autumn / Winter 1997/8 Trading Statement
 
As we reported pre-Christmas, trading conditions were disappointing
throughout the Autumn and this continued throughout the Christmas and sale
period.  The sales performance of the Company for the 25 week and 8 week
periods to 17th January 1998 was as follows:

The Directors believe that the profits for the 53 weeks to 31st January 1998
will be in line with market expectations.
