Riverstone Networks and Lucent Technologies Keynote at the Light
Reading Ethernet Expo Addresses Opportunities, Challenges, and
Solutions for Carriers Deploying Ethernet in Support of Business
and Residential Services LONDON, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- In a
keynote address given this week at the Light Reading Ethernet Expo
Europe, David Ginsburg, Vice President of Marketing and Product
Management, Riverstone Networks Inc., and Enrique
Hernandez-Valencia, Bell Labs Fellow at Lucent Technologies, will
discuss the market opportunities, technical challenges, and
solutions for carriers seeking to maximize their new Ethernet
investments. In this keynote, targeted at executives from Europe's
leading service providers, Ginsburg will address the faster than
expected growth of broadband deployments, the economic implications
of this growth, and the need to future proof these deployments by
pushing fiber as close to the subscriber as possible given
financial considerations. He will also discuss the world of
difference between third-generation broadband and the current
second- generation copper-based buildouts and how they affect the
delivery of true blended services that are personalized, rich and
reliable across both wireline and wireless networks. Enrique
Hernandez-Valencia will describe how the majority of carrier
networks today require Ethernet to be deployed over a combination
of SONET/SDH, WDM, copper, and fiber in support of the new carrier
business model. He will build the case for adopting a mix of
technologies to allow carriers to optimize new service deployment,
while minimizing up-front CAPEX and ongoing OPEX.
Hernandez-Valencia will also make a strong case for MPLS, VPLS, and
policy management in support of these deployments, as well as IP
Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and Resource Access and Control Facility
(RACF) integration across optical/Ethernet transport networks.
Lucent also will participate in a demonstration by Riverstone
Networks of converged Ethernet technologies at the Expo, including
Riverstone's new 15100 Ethernet Access Router as well as Lucent's
optical/Ethernet transport infrastructure. Riverstone Networks,
Inc. is a leading provider of carrier Ethernet infrastructure
solutions for business and residential communications services.
Riverstone's Ethernet router portfolio uniquely delivers the
reliability that allows carriers to meet the triple play -- voice,
video and data -- service requirements of their customers in a
cost-effective and scalable way. Riverstone allows carriers to
offer new services over existing revenue- generating networks
permitting them to evolve to a next generation Ethernet
infrastructure. Riverstone Networks Contacts: Inbar Lasser Raab
