SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 20, 2009 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company's
(NYSE: RTN) Linux cryptographic module embedded in its government
insider threat solution has been awarded federal validation. With
the approval of the new module, the entire Raytheon SureView(TM)
product is now Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2
level 1 compliant. Such compliance is required by the U.S. federal
government to ensure that information systems using cryptography
are secure. "The accreditation of the FIPS Linux cryptographic
module certifies that Raytheon's industry-leading enterprise
monitoring and investigation tools are fully compliant with the
highest security standards," said Steve Hawkins, vice president of
Information Security Solutions at Raytheon. "This certification
meets Department of Defense regulations for cryptographic modules
for certain information assurance applications. Achieving this
certification aligns with Raytheon's ongoing commitment to provide
our customers with the best security, assurance and dependability."
The Cryptographic Module Validation Program, operated by the
National Institute of Standards and Technology, provides module and
algorithm testing for FIPS 140-2. It applies to federal agencies
using validated cryptographic modules to protect sensitive
government data in computer and telecommunication systems. To
expedite the FIPS 140-2 validation process, Raytheon partnered with
Corsec Security, Inc., a consulting company with more than 11 years
of validation experience. "Corsec is proud to have worked with
Raytheon on this intensive effort," said Matthew Appler, CEO and
co-founder of Corsec Security. "Achieving this government security
validation exemplifies Raytheon's dedication and commitment to
providing its customers with proven third-party assurance."
