China has ordered safety inspections for all offshore oil
exploration and production projects after an oil spill at the
Penglai 19-3 oil field in Bohai Bay, according to a statement
posted Sunday on the central government's website.
China's State Administration of Work Safety will inspect
offshore oil projects owned or operated by China National Petroleum
Corp., China Petroleum and Chemical Corp. (SNP), also known as
Sinopec, and China National Offshore Corp. (CEO), also known as
Cnooc.
Other companies involved in the inspections, which will occur
between Sept. 10 and Dec. 10, include the Chinese subsidiaries of
ConocoPhillips (COP), Roc Oil Co. (RCILF), and Husky Energy Inc.
(HSE.T)
The Penglai 19-3 oil field, jointly owned by ConocoPhillips
China and Cnooc, began leaking in early June and so far has spilled
more than 3,200 barrels of oil and oil-based drilling fluid.
