French utility GDF Suez SA (GSZ.FR) on Thursday said its stake in Italian utility Acea SpA (ACE.MI) has risen above 10%.

The transaction was carried out through French utility Suez Environnement (SEV.FR), in which GDF Suez has a 35% stake.

GDF Suez didn't say how much of Acea it now owns.

In a separate statement, Suez Environnement said it took advantage of a market opportunity to raise its stake above 5%, from the 4.99% stake it had held in Acea since 2005.
