        Ashanti Goldfields Company Limited ("Ashanti" or the "Company")

                           Additional Issue of Shares


Application has been made to the London Stock Exchange and the UK Listing
Authority for 2,183,144 Ashanti ordinary shares of no par value to be admitted
to the Official List. The shares will be issued as a result of an exercise of
warrants by warrantholders.

These shares will rank pari passu with existing ordinary shares and dealings are
expected to commence in the new ordinary shares at 8.00am on 30 May 2003.
