TeleCommunication Systems Announces Two Products for Wireless Carriers That Manage Location Requests and Privacy
October 06 2010 - 6:30AM
Marketwired
(CTIA Booth # 309) -- TeleCommunication
Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a world leader in highly
reliable and secure mobile communication technology, today
announced that its Xypoint® Location Services Gateway (Xypoint
Gateway) and Xypoint Location Services Agent (Xypoint Agent) are
now available to wireless carriers. The products make it possible
for carriers to offer enhanced location-based solutions by giving
consumers the ability to set and manage their location privacy and
by enabling geofencing and alerts based on a subscriber's location.
As location services expand into every aspect of consumers'
public and private life, addressing consumers' privacy concerns is
paramount. The Xypoint Gateway provides the privacy services that
consumers demand and today's location services require. When
carriers incorporate this product, consumers can define their own
privacy settings. These settings then become the basis for
authorizing a location request, determining which service is
applicable and enforcing time-based restrictions. The Xypoint
Gateway gives wireless carriers the capacity to deliver enhanced
quality of service and, as a result, experience higher customer
satisfaction and trust.
The Xypoint Agent enables geofencing and ad-hoc location
requests. By using the Xypoint Agent, carriers can now open their
networks to third-party applications and connected devices, and
support new location-based services, which in turn result in higher
data and value-added service revenue. Both of these software
solutions are available under a software license and maintenance
service or an entirely-hosted service enabling carriers to minimize
cost of service based on their specific requirements.
"The task of managing location requests is growing due to
consumer demand for leveraging location data in their everyday
lives," said Drew Morin, TCS' senior vice president and chief
technology officer. "The growth of location services on mobile
devices is driving wireless carriers to enhance their options for
LBS apps while still protecting their subscribers' privacy. Our new
Xypoint offerings equip wireless carriers to excel at both
tasks."
As pioneers of the world's first wireless location platform, TCS
offers a world-class LBS portfolio that includes branded and
private-label applications, infrastructure, mapping, and content
for leading consumer brands, content providers, voice service
providers and more than 40 mobile operators worldwide. Offering
99.999% reliability, TCS leads the industry in deployed mobile
applications. For more information on LBS offerings, go to
