has been appointed Regional Medicare Medical Director for Humana’s
Gulf States Medicare market operations in Louisiana and
Mississippi.

For the past 23 years, Dr. Strand has been in private practice
in Mandeville, La., and since 2013 he has been on staff at the
wound center of St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, La.
Dr. Strand’s extensive hospital, health care and medical
experience also includes a six-year stint as medical director of
the wound center at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie,
La.; 11 years as a surgery instructor at the Uniformed Services
University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md.; and, the past
two years as a member of United Healthcare’s regional peer review
committee for the Southeast Region.
In his new regional medical director role for Humana, Dr. Strand
will oversee clinical and medical activities for Humana’s Senior
Products segment in the Gulf States, encompassing Humana Medicare
markets in Louisiana and Mississippi.
Dr. Strand’s appointment was announced this month by Humana Gulf
States Senior Products President April Golenor. Dr. Strand reports
to Golenor, and he will be based in New Orleans.
Dr. Strand received his bachelor’s degree from the University of
Wisconsin at Eau Claire, Wisc., and earned his MD from the George
Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in
Washington, DC.
Dr. Strand is affiliated with a number of national medical
associations and organizations, including the Louisiana State
Medical Society, American Association for Physician Leadership and
the American Medical Association, and is a fellow of the American
College of Surgeons.
