Infrax Systems, Inc., (OTC.BB: IFXY), a global provider of Internet of Things for the Energy and Utility industries, announces today that it will extend  its flagship platform to the Home by developing innovative and state-of-the-art "secure" gateways for home energy management. The secure gateways will incorporate the Company's proprietary Secure Network Interface Card (SNIC) in its backbone architecture design. The secure gateways will allow seamless integration with existing Home networks through its secure Universal Integration Platform (UIP) architecture.

The Internet of Things is expected to be a $14.4 trillion opportunity over the next decade for companies that participate in it, according to a Cisco presentation from June 2013. This is a substantial opportunity for companies like Infrax Systems.  The push for the connected home is clearly coming. Several companies announced Internet-capable products at CES, including a refrigerator, oven, washer and dryer.

But this initial push into the Home has come at a great cost; security vulnerability. According to BBC News;

A fridge has been discovered sending out spam after a web attack managed to compromise smart gadgets. The fridge was one of more than 100,000 devices used to take part in the spam campaign. Uncovered by security firms, the attack compromised computers, home routers, media PCs and smart TV sets. The attack is believed to be one of the first to exploit the lax security on devices that are part of the "internet of things".  With poor protection, the spam attack took place between 23 December 2013 and 6 January this year.  In total about 750,000 messages were sent as part of the junk mail campaign. The emails were routed through the compromised gadgets. Home automation's essential feature is hardened security which is absent in most smart Home devices.

Home automation market and energy management fits clearly in the Smart Grid ecosystem and Infrax Systems is poised to enter the Internet of Things growing space. Our flagship platform with its built-in security features will ensure a solid implementation of the Internet of Things for the Home but without the security vulnerability.

The SNIC is the cornerstone product for the next generation (Smart Grid II) AMI/Smart Grid network which provides enhanced security, high bandwidth and reliability through a multi-layered, segmented LAN architecture that is intuitive and user friendly. Smart Grid II is security, bandwidth, intelligence, riding over a network that is adaptive, reliable and resilient.
