Italian oil-and-gas major Eni will channel millions of euros from the French state to refund customers in France in the coming months due to billing errors.

Eni Gas & Power France has promptly started distributing state resources to affected customers and will hand out a second tranche of roughly 50 million euros ($54.1 million) by the end of the year, a spokesperson said Tuesday.

The payments won't have any impact on Eni's results since they come from French authorities, according to the spokesperson.

France's Energy Transition Minister Agnes Pannier-Runacher said Tuesday in an interview with radio station RMC that Eni is reimbursing EUR34 million this week and EUR50 million in the coming months to 100,000 customers who were overcharged.

French media reported that customers who renewed their contracts in the second half of 2022 had received incorrect invoices as a government tariff shield hadn't been applied.
