Break out the champagne! At 3:06 pm GMT, the FTSE is at 7,005.48! I have been watching the FTSE all day – just like you have. In the few seconds it took me to type that, it has already hit 7,009.00 and is now at 7,010.34!
This is an incredible day, as we all watch the FTSE 100 ascend to heights that some – even recently – have never believed possible.
Opening at 6,960.81, the FTSE struggled to stay above the 6,970.00 mark, passing it, then falling back, at least nine times by my count.
Then, shortly after noon, it broke through, once again struggling for three hours to reach 6,990.00. Once it did, it was like the booster rockets kicked in an the index took off in a steep vertical climb, breaking the sacred 7,000.00 just minutes after 3:00 pm.
Frankly, if you have read my articles over the past two days, you know that I am not surprised. What I am surprised about is that, for a brief moment, the index was just 1.96 points from breaking 7,020.00.
