Leading Automotive Supplier Adopts Motorola Microcontrollers for
Powertrain Systems MPC5500 Family Helps Enable Low Costs and Fast
Development for Designers AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 18
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motorola, Inc.'s 32-bit MPC5500
microcontroller (MCU) series is ready for the automotive
marketplace, and Visteon Corporation is leading the way in the
technology integration and application. Visteon is a leading global
tier one automotive supplier, delivering innovations and
integration to global automakers. Regulatory and market forces have
created increasingly stringent performance, emissions and fuel
economy standards for vehicles. Visteon uses Motorola's
microcontrollers (MCUs) to help stay at the forefront of these
standards, and at the same time, enable Visteon to optimize costs
and maximize flexibility. "The semiconductor content in vehicles
continues to grow year over year," said Will Strauss, president of
analyst firm Forward Concepts. "Automotive electronic systems
manufacturers are requiring extremely high performance for their
powertrain systems in order to control more complex engine and
transmission functions, such as multi-point fuel injection and
direct diesel injection. Semiconductor suppliers like Motorola, the
leader in powertrain microcontrollers, are responding to these
requirements with more powerful, highly integrated micros." The
MPC5500 allows mechanical functions, such as knock and misfire
detection, to be moved to software. This provides Visteon the
flexibility to support multiple customer requirements without
additional application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) support
and will help Visteon react more quickly to changing customer
requirements. MPC5500 Family Easing Migration Motorola's MPC5500
family provides a migration path from the MPC500 series, addressing
future automotive application requirements. By creating this
transition, Motorola helps customers preserve and leverage previous
investments, helping ensure the long-term sustainabilityof their
products based on existing MPC500 devices. Motorola offers a
comprehensive suite of hardware and software development tools for
the MPC5500 family to help simplify and speed development cycles
and time to market. For more information please visit:
