Humana Inc. swung to a loss in the fourth quarter amid mounting costs for coronavirus tests and treatments in the last two months of the year.

The Louisville, Ky.-based healthcare company said Wednesday its loss was $2.07 a share in the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, compared with earnings of $3.84 a year ago. It booked a loss of $458 million before taxes, compared to a profit of $593 million last year.

Its adjusted loss was $2.30 a share. Analysts polled by FactSet expected a loss of $2.37 a share.

Sales rose to $19.06 billion in the quarter from $16.3 billion a year ago. Analysts expected sales of $18.77 billion.
