Sybase SQL Anywhere to Power Next Generation Customs Application
DUBLIN, Calif., July 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sybase, Inc.
(NYSE:SY) today announced that China Customs has chosen Sybase(R)
and East Port Technology Co. Ltd. to enhance the country's customs
import-export clearance processes, one of the world's largest
deployments of a mobile and embedded application. The SQL
Anywhere(R) database deployment is a major win Sybase has achieved
in the mobile and embedded applications market in China, providing
a secure mobile database for the China Digital Customs Data
Exchange System. Once completed, the project is expected to set a
new standard for future projects in China and across the globe. The
original software was developed and managed by East Port
Technology, and is used by all Chinese companies with import-export
business. "Following China's entry into the World Trade
Organization, the country's trade volume has continued to set new
records, so a public information platform that accommodates the
expanding electronic clearance capacity is key to China Customs'
development," said Horace Chow, vice president of Sybase Asia
Pacific and general manager of Sybase Greater China. "East Port
realized a more secure, powerful database for large scale
deployments and data synchronization was essential for its
applications to satisfy ever growing needs. Sybase SQL Anywhere
meets the expectations of both China Customs and East Port." "This
collaboration with Sybase will greatly enhance our clearance
applications with SQL Anywhere's robust features, seamless data
synchronization and stronger security. With Sybase, we are set to
help raise efficiency and quality of service at China Customs,"
said Wang Xiaoding, president of East Port Technology. Following an
in-depth review of options, Sybase SQL Anywhere was found to be the
perfect choice to help China Customs improve its efficiency and
quality of service as it offered a secure and comprehensive mobile
