The European Commission Tuesday said it will make a statement on the Dutch government's state aid to troubled bank ING Groep NV (ING) later in the day.

"There will be a statement later today," said the commission's competition spokesman Jonathan Todd.

The Dutch press reported earlier that the commission won't approve the Alt-A mortgage transaction between ING and the Dutch state, finding it to have been provided at too lenient terms to the bank.
