The key to good investment plan is to diversify the risk. You can spread your investment across different sectors or you can divide your nest egg across glamour and value stocks. However, another way is to go international and invest overseas. But this is easier said than done.

Capital market investment is regulated by various government authorities and you cannot simply go and put your money in a foreign capital market. But, there is an easier way to do it, if you decide to go ETF way. Instead of taking the riskier route of direct investment, you can invest in an ETF focusing on emerging markets and reap the benefits. Here is the list of our top emerging markets ETFs:

iSHARES MSCI Emerging Markets Financial Sector Index Fund (NASDAQ:EMFN): The fund was established in 2010 and it focuses on financial sector in emerging markets. The fund NAV oscillated in the range of $20.47 and $25.70 in the past 52 weeks and it has given 24.83 percent return YTD. The fund is well diversified as its top holdings are scattered across a wide breadth of emerging markets such as China, India and Brazil.  iSHARES MSCI Emerging Markets’ top holding is in China Construction Bank Corp. The fund seems to be doing fine even in the short term as the fund gave 4.74 percent return in the past one month. It is accompanied by a healthy dividend yield of 5.98 percent. The ETF is listed on NASDAQ.

ProShares Ultra MSCI EAFE (NYSEARCA:EFO): The fund has given 18.75 percent return YTD basis. ProShares Ultra seeks daily investment results that correspond to twice (200%) the daily performance of the MSCI EAFE Index. The fund NAV traded in the range of $51.0808 and $74.03 in the past 52 weeks. It has provided 19.95 percent return on Year to Date basis and its one year return stands at 9.37 percent. The fund has $10.36 million worth of assets under its management and its expense ratio stands at 0.95.

iShares S&P Emerging Markets Bull 3X Shares (NASDAQ:EMIF): The fund’s top three holdings are in CCR SA, Ultrapar Participacoes SA and China Merchants Holdings. It has given 14.53 percent return in last one year whereas its YTD return stands at 17.13 percent. This ETF is designed to mimic the price and yield performance of the S&P Emerging Markets Infrastructure Index. iShares S&P Emerging Markets Bull has AUM of $127.82 million and its NAV has oscillated in the range of $27.27 and $34.79 in the past 52 weeks. It also offers income dividend on semiannual basis and its dividend yield stands at 2.53 percent.

SPDR S&P Emerging Markets SmallCap ETF (NYSEARCA:EWX): The fund focuses on quality small cap stocks in emerging markets. Its main holdings are in Thanachart Capital, DataTech Ltd and Coronation Managers Ltd. and it strives to mimic total return performance of the S&P Emerging Markets Under USD2 Billion Index. SPDR S&P Emerging Markets SmallCap has provided 4.62 percent in the past one year whereas its YTD return stands at 16.57 percent. The fund’s NAV traded in the range of $35.97 and $47.69 in the past 52 weeks and it has $883.45 million worth of assets under its management. The fund’s biggest exposure is to Taiwan followed by China and South Africa.

iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Minimum Volatility Index Fund (NYSEARCA:EEMV): The Fund seeks to track the performance of the MSCI Emerging Markets Minimum Volatility Index. Its NAV oscillated in the range of $48.27 and $61.90 in the past 52 weeks. iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Minimum Volatility Index Fund provided 2.82 percent return in the past 3 months while its last 12 months return stood at 15.04 percent. iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Minimum Volatility Index Fund’s return on YTD basis stands at  16.45 percent. The company’s top holdings are in Maxis Bhd, Public Bank Bhd and Unilever Indonesia. The fund has $602 million worth of assets under its management.

EGShares Emerging Markets Consumer ETF (NYSEARCA:ECON): The fund has its NAV between $20.36 and $25.62 in the past 52 weeks. EGShares Emerging Markets Consumer ETF seeks to track the performance of the Dow Jones Emerging Markets Consumer Titans Index and provided 12.59 percent return in the past one year. The fund’s YTD return stands at 14.92 percent. EGShares Emerging Markets Consumer’s top holding is in Cia de Bebidas das Americas, Naspers Ltd and Wal-Mart de Mexico SAB de CV. The fund has $463.82 million worth of assets under its management.
