FAT PROPHETS: The 24th instalment in the James Bond movie franchise, Spectre, took in an estimated $73 million at the US box office as it opened in that market. That ranks it as the second highest opening for a 007 film in the United States, behind the juggernaut that was Skyfall, which raked around $15.7 million more.

Internationally the film earned around $117.8 million over the weekend, which bought its global gross to almost $191 million and made it two consecutive weekends at the top of the global box office for our favourite secret agent and it took out the number one spot in every market it was released.

Spectre debuted in the UK market over a week ago and took in £41m from the Monday to Friday, which comfortably beat the last record holder, the Harry Potter film The Prisoner of Azkaban, which took in £23.8m in its opening week.  Spectre’s worldwide take after 10 days comes to an estimated $296 million. That still leaves a long runway for Spectre to topple its predecessor Skyfall, which was the most successful Bond movie in history (non-inflation adjusted) with a box office take of $1.1 billion.
