UK construction PMI fell in December
The construction PMI in the UK eased to a level of 52.80 in December, lower than market expectations of a fall to a reading of 52.90. The index had registered a reading of 53.40 in the previous month.
US initial jobless claims unexpectedly climbed in the last week
In the US, the seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims recorded an unexpected rise to a level of 231.00 K in the week ended 29 December 2018, compared to a revised reading of 221.00 K in the previous week. Markets were expecting initial jobless claims to ease to a level of 220.00 K.
Private sector employment in the US rose in December
The private sector employment in the US registered a rise of 271.00 K in December, higher than market anticipations of an advance of 180.00 K. The private sector employment had registered a revised increase of 157.00 K in the prior month.
US ISM manufacturing activity index fell in December
The US ISM manufacturing activity index dropped to a level of 54.10 in December, compared to market expectations of a drop to a reading of 57.50. In the prior month, the index had registered a level of 59.30.
US mortgage applications dropped in the last week
On a weekly basis, mortgage applications in the US eased 8.50% in the week ended 28 December 2018. Mortgage applications had dropped 5.80% in the previous week.
