In a bid to cover the most anticipated event of the year, Pinnacle Telecom (LSE:PINN) has secured the contract to provide BBC International and its’ world media partners with data, connectivity, and voice services for the worldwide broadcast coverage of the 2012 London Olympics.

With an audience of four billion expected to follow the event, the contract gives Pinnacle its’ biggest undertaking, having provided their expertise to the BBC in the Royal Wedding last year, the UK General Election in 2010, and the Pope’s visit to the UK.

Pinnacle Telecom Group plc have been supplying the BBC with short-term data connectivity and telecoms solutions for some time now,” said Jamie Hindhaugh, BBC Head of Production 2012.

The contract, the value of which has not been disclosed, involves supplying fibre connections, back-up links, analog and ISDN connectivity as well as IP telephone switchboards, telephone handsets, and data connections to BBC.

BBC International will occupy the 22-storey Stratford Broadcast Tower located at the edge of the Olympic Park providing international media with broadcast studios, presentation suites, production offices, and stand-up positions for broadcasting the events. The building is overlooking the Olympic Stadium, the Aquatics Centre, and the Orbit Tower.

Pinnacle will provide direct point-to-point fibre connection to major capital cities, allowing for live images and sound to be broadcasted directly to the broadcaster’s home country for editing and re-transmission around the world.

Pinnacle considers this bid a demonstration of their capability to handle larger and more complex projects.

A turnover of 17.1 million shares as of 2:00 PM GMT shot up Pinnacle’s stock price 14.5% higher to 0.355 pence.
