Hope for 2021 is difficult to generate out of the prospects for economic, medical or political news which is all a bit awkward. The reality is that as soon as the economy is judged to be able to stand it the Government will move to inflationary Covid payback polices .. higher taxes etc
Unless you work by the aphorism, “she who expects nothing cannot be disappointed,” Investors in small caps need to travel in hope and critical to performance is being in the right investment themes, as ‘all boats raise on a high tide’.
An easy answer to another strong performance is investing in sectors, in media, life sciences, telecom, ecommererce technology, sustainable energy and new economy services. As it is will be a timing challenge to seek price performance from recovery in oil, bricks and mortar retail, leisure, airlines and hospitality.
A Theme that is starting to drive business investment is Environmental, Social and Governance, ESG. These in broad brush strokes means investing in companies committed to a set of values that promote ‘economic justice’ to all its stakeholders and has a positive impact on society. This will be driven by greater disclosure leading to improved practices.
We may start looking for more T20 trades in 2021 as we anticipate plenty volatility in prices. We look forward to a profitable ride. Part 2 to follow
