How positive! I am somewhat cynical as a newbie, but realize I must research this further to see if AirTran is a quality stock.

I believe in AAI !!!!

Picked up 12,000 shares under $2.00,,,this is too good to be true in my opinion especially with oil falling. Read USA today article on airlines ..future bright for 09 !!!!

AAI is ready now (IMO) ... check out the great chart. Oil is now down - around $110, stock was recently upgraded by S&P etc etc

I bot 4000 shares at 1.65 last week and sold at 2.09 today !!
It is now falling again because of oil starting a slight up tick.

After Friday's closing bell, AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings Inc., said its balance sheet is "ample" to fund operations, in light of the company's stock volatility. Shares of AirTran, which closed down 34.6% at $4.13, rebounded 29.3% to $5.34 in after-hours activity. AirTran said it has $358 million in cash and investments on its balance sheet. "AirTran Airways is one of the strongest low-cost carriers operating today," said Bob Fornaro, AirTran president and chief executive, in a statement. AirTran made the statement following a recent string of low-cost airlines that have folded because of high fuel prices.

(MEH.A: Quote, Profile, Research) to $16.25 a share, or about $445 million overall, exceeding the value of a buyout deal accepted by Midwest at the weekend.

The move comes in response to requests from Midwest shareholders, said AirTran, which has been pursuing Midwest for several months. Two institutional shareholders have publicly encouraged Midwest to do a deal with AirTran, despite the objections of Midwest's management.

On Sunday, Midwest accepted a $16 per share buyout offer from private equity firm TPG Capital, backed by Northwest Airlines Corp."

Midwest Air Group lets AirTran takeover offer expire

MILWAUKEE - AirTran Holdings Inc. dropped its $431 million takeover bid for Midwest Air Group on Sunday night, and Midwest immediately announced it would pursue an all-cash offer from private equity firm TPG Capital.

About two-thirds of the shareholders of Midwest, parent company of Midwest Airlines, had agreed to the cash-and-stock offer from Orlando, Fla.-based AirTran, which was estimated at $389 million when it was announced months ago. AirTran had offered $15.75 a share, which spokesman Tad Hutcheson said made the equity value of the transaction in excess of $431 million based on Friday's closing price of AirTran stock.

But the board of Milwaukee-based Midwest, which had fought AirTran's hostile offer for months, said instead it would move ahead with the offer of $16 per share from TPG Capital, formerly Texas Pacific Group.

AirTran, the parent company of AirTran Airways, will return to its strategy of growing as a standalone business, said David Hirschman, another spokesman.

"We've said all along that this is something we'd like to do, not something we need to do," he said of the proposed takeover. "We've got great growth prospects independently and that's what we're going to focus on."

AirTran's tender offer technically expired Friday at midnight but both sides had until the market opened Monday to reach a deal.

Midwest has fought AirTran's hostile bids since it offered $78 million in June 2005. But Midwest relented last month, signaling it would consider the latest offer as well as offers
from three other suitors."

HHMMmmm-- it certainly became quiet here... didya buy YET? AAI keeps growing. They will be posting profits,, something the big guys no longer remember how to spell... and when the big guys curb losses one may decide to suck 'em up to show less losses.. been adding here and have a little @ 5.3

It looks like a good day to be off of work and watching the markets. There are a Lot of good buys out there, as long as the 4th and the weekend are quiet. One thing about going for the Calls rather than the Stock is that your risk is limited. If you buy $500 worth of Calls and the stock drops overnight the most you can lose is the $500. If you buy $5000 worth of stock to control the same 1000 shares and the stock drops overnight your loss could be up to the $5000. Something to think about if you are looking at stocks that have Options available on them. Just look at some of the Tankage that has taken place on some stocks recently like FHRX and OPWV. Hard to protect yourself from a significant loss if you own the stock.

I also passed on WCOM and all of it's related stocks, Ugh. Just mostly Watching for now until we get over the weekend.

I'm actually not working today and just re-evaulating my portfolio, cleaning house, and looking to buy a few stocks.

I picked up some TWTC @ 1.29 for a short-mid-term flip. Looking to add AAI for a long-term play. Just want to time it right. Also licking my chops to play WCOME. Didn't have the cajones to buy at .07, even though I knew it was overreaction. But Had no idea it would rally like this.

Kinda fun dipping back into the market.

Markets not Happy IMO
It is hard to get any buyers when the markets are not Happy. Are you looking for a long term hold on this one Matt? I am showing the Jan 03 Leaps on AAI trading at .50 x .70. If you pick up 10 contracts at .50 on a dip then you will be controlling 1000 shares at the cost of $500. A lot less risk than buying the stock Eh? Of course you will have to get some Positive movement before the end of January. It looks from the chart that AAI would be good for the January affect. As long as the markets Hold here then it should move up between now and then.

Wanted to pull the trigger today, but I'm waiting until Friday. Of course, I wonder if anybody else is, as well.

The stock didn't even move on a 20%+ increase in seat sales. What gives?

Hi Matt,
I caught the board from the New Boards list. Is this the airlines that had the oxygen tanks explode and then crashed into the Everglades? It looks as though the stock has stabilized here after Sept 11th and is holding a fairly solid base. It has been in a slight downtrend since January but if the markets reverse and it can hold support above $5 then it looks like it could make a move back to $7 fairly easily. They had good news today but I think that the markets held it down. Picking up a few shares here with a stop loss at $5 looks Safe. You might want to wait until next week though to make sure all of the 4th of July negative sentiment passes over :^)

This company was actually the first listed stock I bought.

I'm still intrigued by the whole concept of dirt cheap airfare and have believed that it is a model that has a certain place in America.

The company is still having a hard time recovering from the time it crashed in the Everglades, but there have been many many more crashes by other companies.

They've recently fired up NEW service in several towns, including mine (Tallahassee). Caught my attention amongst all the other ones folding up. Growth in an airline, eh?

That article kind of gets my mojo going. At $5/pop, I might buy a few shares.

Thoughts? I'm looking for a good 2-3 year hold play.

Haven't looked at financials. Only going on gut feeling on this one. Will take a look at balance sheet after I fill my gut with some steak and chicken tonight.

One more edit. Might be prudent to wait until after July 4th, though. All these FBI warnings about these flaming buttheaded terrorists kind of makes me shaky diving into anything this week.
