The battle over who fits onto Coca Cola’s (NYSE:KO) current CEO Muhtar Kent’s shoes once he retires has already begun. Indeed, two of the most likely candidates, Ahmet Bozer and Steve Cahillane have been given additional responsibilities for overseeing operations in world’s biggest beverage company.

According to sources inside the company, the race to succeed the 59-year old Kent is expected to be both intense and for prolonged period. However, whether they will be able match Kent’s splendid performance remains to be seen.

Ever since Kent became the CEO in July 2008, he has been widely acclaimed for bolstering Coca Cola’s profit even as he helped the company to grab the market share from its arch rival PepsiCo Inc.

Headquartered in Atlanta, Coca Cola Co. announced on Monday that it will streamline its existing set up. While 47-year-old Mr. Cahillane will shoulder the responsibility of looking after Coke’s operations in the Americas, 52-year-old Mr. Bozer will be the in charge for overseeing global operations.

The operating unit, responsible for overseeing Coke’s investments in company-owned bottlers located outside the Americas will be headed by 55 year old Irial Finan.

Gary Fayard, Coke’s current Chief Financial Officer, although highly respected within the company, is not in the fray as he is already 60 years old, according to Company Sources.
