Since Volvo Group owns Mack Trucks I wanted to know if HPDI was being used on any Mack Trucks.

Ai says:

Volvo — yes, actively. Mack — not publicly confirmed yet, but there is a plausible pathway because of shared powertrain architecture.

Volvo and Westport Fuel Systems? are no longer just evaluating HPDI conceptually — they formed a joint venture called Cespira to commercialize HPDI fuel systems for heavy-duty applications.

What’s happening now:

Volvo Trucks: YES
In 2026, Westport demonstrated a high-pressure CNG + HPDI system installed in a Volvo VNL 300.

Demo specs reported: 500 hp / 1,850 lb-ft, with diesel-like efficiency and over 600 miles of range claimed.

Volvo is also conducting on-road hydrogen HPDI testing using the same HPDI platform family with commercialization targeted before 2030.

Mack Trucks: NO public HPDI deployment announced (that I could verify)

However, this is where it gets interesting: Mack and Volvo share major engine architecture inside Volvo Group (for example Mack MP-series relationships to Volvo D-series engines are widely recognized in industry discussions). That means if Volvo validates HPDI on its heavy-duty platform, the technical barrier to adapting into certain Mack platforms is lower than starting from scratch.

If your question is really aimed at “Could Mack become an HPDI launch customer later?” my read is:

Technically: yes, credible.
Commercially: unannounced.
Volvo appears to be using the Volvo badge first, likely because LNG/CNG/hydrogen adoption has stronger traction in certain fleet markets before rolling across brands.

If you’re asking because of a defense / industrial angle (you’ve asked before about heavy vehicle manufacturing and alternative propulsion), HPDI is interesting because it preserves diesel-style torque and existing engine manufacturing lines rather than requiring full battery-electric redesign.

WORSTPORT Part Deux !

WORSTPORT has failed because there is not enough CNG/LNG infrastructure to support alt fuel vehicles.

There are even FEWER hydrogen facilities than there were Natural Gas facilities, and Hydrogen is 2 to 4 TIMES more expensive than Natural Gas.

Hydrogen HPDI will be even less successful than CNG/LNG HPDI.

The Volvo LOI is NOT a BIG Deal !

Guys, this is Lousy WORSTPORT ! WORSTPORT can't do BIG Deals because nothing about WORSTPORT is big !
This is just a supply deal between the buyer and vendor, with the buyer taking an ownership interest (JV) in the vendor ... for pennies on the Dollar.
Barry, Robert & Mark, have you even tried crunching the numbers ? If you had, you would be in hiding right now and not opening your BIG Mouths. You are displaying your ignorance to us all.

WORSTPORT is a small, struggling auto-parts company, and they have just sold their soul again to a big truck company. Did you learn NOTHING from the Cummins JV ?

You got skruud by Cummins ( and the management helped), and you will be skruud again!

Like Cummins, Volvo brings the gravitas and credibility that WORSTPORT Lacks.

But WORSTPORT remains a struggling, niche auto parts supplier. One recall would wipe out WORSTPORT, but not Volvo.

If the LOI doesn't become a real deal, then I don't see WPRT being much more than a small, struggling niche auto parts supplier worth about $1.00 / share.

WORSTPORT will be long gone before there is a hydrogen ICE business.

NGVS are a small niche business. WORSTPORT needs to end their delusions of grandeur, and right size for the business they have.

Penny - The Saudi's have cut back Zero gas!

And the Saudi's have only cut 1 million barrels per day of crude oil.

Not ONE MAJOR OIL COMPANY, will have a wide spread roll out of hydrogen.

They all know the numbers. You don't even know the difference between oil and Gas.

Penny - Did you see the word "Research" in the title ? Not a product ! Not a business ! A Research Project. Another Science Fair Project.

Where are the hydrogen stations? One reason NGV's are such a FAILURE is that there are not enough stations.

And when you can find a Hydrogen station, Hydrogen Costs 5 TIMES more than diesel and 6 TIMES more than RNG !

No one wants a vehicle that uses expensive hydrogen and still pollutes. A solution the a problem that doesn't exist. NGV's are a total failure, and Hydrogen ICE's are 5 TIMES Worse.

Natural gas at $2.00 and oil at $100, and WORSTPORT couldn't break even.
