trunk - We agree !

I use the term : Different horses for different courses. And we will need all sources and forms of energy.

Presently, the group having the most success with hydrogen are those who produce hydrogen as a petrochemical feedstock more than as a fuel.
Hydrogen vehicles for instance are Failing because hydrogen as an on-road motorfuel is not the "right horse" for the course.
For use indoors (forklifts) where air quality is critical, hydrogen is a good application is some instances. But as a fuel for backup generation, there are other "horses" much better suited to the task like natural gas.

Another term I often use is, "Technically hydrogen works, but Economically hydrogen doesn't.". So as we look at all forms of energy and apply economics to the decision making, hydrogen has some serious limitations due to the lack of infrastructure/supply and cost.

Hydrogen is in a class by itself, its cleaner, more efficient, and the by product is drinkable water if treated. Natural gas and hydrogen have different uses, transported differently, and will always have their own markets.

Why would a Data Center need hydrogen if there is already Natural Gas on site ?

SK will use the LNG to produce the Electricity for the Korean Grid which in turn will supply the data center. The natural gas (the NG in LNG) will also supply the backup generators AWS requires .
There is no need for  producing expensive hydrogen for this project and Jegu is an island hundreds of miles fro Ulsan.

Plug Power should consider running an advertisement on conservative media channels to highlight its leadership as a US company pioneering hydrogen solutions, ahead of global competitors, including China. The objective would be to encourage House and Senate Republicans to reconsider their stance on the 45V tax credit. Without Plug Power, the United States will fall behind in the global hydrogen race.

Maria Cantwell (MC) Presses Energy Secretary Chris Wright (CW) On Elimination Of Hydrogen Tax Credits
June 18, 2025 (time 2.53 /5:50)

MC
Do you support eliminating 45V? Maybe this was asked by my colleague while I was gone, but 45V hydrogen production tax credit is being. It was proposed to be eliminated. Do you support that? or where are you on this hydrogen tax credit?

CW
The government record in picking winners and losers and subsidizing in energy is a very poor one. So my, my default position is the less government involvement on the scales of energy sources, the better. I realize in the real world that's not possible, so we've got to get rid of, you've got to prioritize which ones are the most offensive, and I mentioned wind, solar, and batteries certainly as as. that we've subsidized and they've led to more expensive electricity. I would put them maybe at the most offensive. Hydrogen, it's tough with the, it's tough with the math to see how in the long term it becomes a meaningful commercial energy source.

MC

Can I get you to tell me about the hydrogen hubs, whether you believe you support the hydrogen hubs and moving forward on this?

CW
So we put together, as I'm sure you've heard and we've published it on the website, you know, this project review process. We have a cross functional team that evaluates every project. We're going through 500 projects.

MC
But is that data call a way to kill the projects, or no, you really believe in funding some?

CW
It's, oh, absolutely. No, we, we, we, we are funding plenty of projects right. And we don't stop funding any project. We're funding all of the existing projects right now, and when we evaluate them, you know, plenty of projects will pass. Plenty of projects will pass. Other projects will say, hey, if we can you modify it this way to make it much more beneficial? Some projects will be modified and some projects will be ended.

MC
What application are you most excited about? In a hydrogen hub area, what application? Fertilizer, jet fuel, something else. What are you most excited about?

CW
Well, so the highest value use of hydrogen, right? So it's expensive to produce, but there are high value uses of hydrogen we produce it today commercially because in refining it's very high value in fertilizers and materials in chemistry. The problem is what's the cost to produce the hydrogen and are there, are there uses of it that their value is above the cost? I say energy is about two things. It's just about people and math.

It seems that South Korean companies are more focused on producing green hydrogen abroad and then shipping it back to South Korea.
Plug Power is the first and only green hydrogen producer on Jeju Island and possibly in all of South Korea.
SK is a gas company and probably more focus on gray and blue hydrogen.
I think, like most of Plug Power's partners, their objective is to learn from Plug Power's technologies and experience, not to make rapid progress, but to move slowly until Plug runs out of money and the joint venture is dissolved.

Banger - Yes.

Too many to list. Many small start-ups, plus some of the usual suspects.

No project is successful or commercial, yet. The big cost is purifying the hydrogen which is not 100% pure coming out of the ground.

Lots of other things are in the mixture like moisture, acetlyene, methane. Hydrogen like to connect with other molecules.

As its a holiday in the US, here's something I have been wondering about (but not PLUG related yet).

What is the status of companies trying to capture the natural (white) hydrogen within the earths crust? I see a regular stream of articles about more reservoirs being found but nothing about which companies are developing the capability to safely extract it. Are there any? Are there any projects actually trying to do it yet?

Here's a FUN FACT :

"An incredible 99 per cent of globally produced hydrogen is made from fossil fuels, according to the International Energy Agency – the same fossil fuels that are the largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and thus to the climate crisis. In 2024 global hydrogen production was responsible for over 900 million tonnes (Mt) of CO2 emissions.

That’s more than was emitted by the global aviation industry (almost 800Mt) and significantly more than Germany’s CO2 emissions (635 Mt), the EU’s most polluting economy."

If Andy took a $5 million pay cut and did no retire or resign, I guess he's sticking it out until Plug goes under. Looks to me they probably waited way to long about cutting expenses and limiting their markets. As it is they were looking at 2028 to make a profit and with the loss of the $3 KG write off that puts it further out. This all assumes they can right size, control cost and don't get replaced by a better lower cost competitor or product. Andy had to be first and bet it all and mismanaged what he had until; it was too late. He wasted money on politicians that used him and played him as a fool while taking money for the same that wanted to kill hydrogen. If he was a Japanese CEO he would do the honorable thing.

What did SK ever do with us? We heard busses, but no news on that. We heard a Giga factory, but nothing much. I think Germany and many European countries will use their own technology. I know we had some business in Spain. We cannot compete price wise with China if Europe prefers to deal with them. Also, will they come to the same conclusion as the US and basically just limit hydrogen to a few niche markets.

American Energy Policy Whiplash Risks Ceding Hydrogen Leadership to China
Brigham McCown Jun 18, 2025
...
This moment warrants strategic nuance, not blunt policy reversals. Clean hydrogen represents a rare bipartisan opportunity to expand American natural gas markets while advancing decarbonization goals. The United States produces 95 percent of its hydrogen using natural gas via steam methane reforming, while others have introduced additional innovative methods such as methane pyrolysis.
...
However, if the Senate follows the House’s lead and repeals the 45V tax credit, the U.S. risks losing its foothold, ceding ground to foreign competitors. It would also choke off a critical new growth market for American natural gas.

Meanwhile, China is moving aggressively. In 2022, the Chinese Communist Party unveiled its first Hydrogen Industry Medium- and Long-Term Development Plan (2021–2035). The effect has been significant. While China accounted for less than 10 percent of global electrolyzer capacity in 2020, by the end of 2023, it controlled 50 percent of the market.

China’s rapid mobilization should serve as a wake-up call to U.S. policymakers.
...
America’s global leadership in energy is not a foregone conclusion. It will depend on deliberate choices made today.

‘Still time to get this right’: FCHEA urges Congress to correct course on hydrogen tax credit
By Charlie Currie Jun 18, 2025

The Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA) has issued a sharp rebuke of a Senate committee’s draft budget bill, warning that its decision to uphold the proposal to terminate the 45V hydrogen tax credit undermines the US’ ability to lead in hydrogen.

The trade body is calling on lawmakers to adopt a “realistic, multi-year construction window” in the credit that reflects the timeline needed for complex infrastructure projects.

Senate Republicans look to ease cuts to solar, hydrogen credits
The changes could further inflame conservatives who want a near full repeal of Inflation Reduction Act tax credits.
By: Josh Siegel, Kelsey Tamborrino | 06/17/2025

Several Senate Republicans are seeking to soften the Senate Finance Committee's rollback of clean energy credits, aiming to give more time for hydrogen and solar power to qualify for the federal incentives in Democrats’ climate law.

But shifting any of the legislative language to accommodate them risks angering conservatives who have already criticized the Finance’s Committee’s move to weaken the curbs in the House-passed bill — and, they say, contradicts President Donald Trump’s pledge to fully repeal the Inflation Reduction Act incentives.

Senate Republicans are hoping to pass their tax-and-spending package next week, so lawmakers seeking to maintain more of the IRA energy incentives are facing a time crunch to make their case. The two chambers would then need to align their bills before sending it to Trump’s desk.

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), chair of the Environment and Public Works Committee, told POLITICO that she’s working to extend the phaseout period for the clean hydrogen production tax credit, which would be eliminated after this year under the Finance Committee's title.

Senate Republicans double down and target clean energy in draft tax bill
By ALEXA ST. JOHN June 18, 2025
...
Whether all of the changes will be enacted into law isn’t clear yet. The Senate can still modify its proposals before they go to a vote. Any conflicts in the draft legislation will have to be sorted out with the House as the GOP looks to fast-track the bill for a vote by President Donald Trump’s imminent Fourth of July target.

Notably, many Republicans in Congress have advocated to protect the clean-energy credits, which have overwhelmingly benefited Republican congressional districts. A report by the Atlas Public Policy research firm found that 77% of planned spending on credit-eligible projects are in GOP-held House districts.
...
After the House vote, 13 House Republicans lobbied the Senate to preserve some of the clean energy incentives that GOP lawmakers had voted to erase.

Plug Power board cut CEO's 2024 pay to stem losses
Andy Marsh took $5 million salary hit as local layoffs were announced
By Larry Rulison, June 18, 2025

BETHLEHEM — As Plug Power’s finances faltered and the hydrogen fuel cell company’s stock suffered, the firm’s board of directors dramatically reduced the compensation of CEO Andy Marsh as it also laid off more than 250 local workers this spring.

Marsh, who is typically among the highest-paid CEOs of Capital Region publicly traded companies each year, got a $5 million pay cut in 2024.

Marsh was paid $7,252,805 in total compensation in 2023, according to the company’s proxy statement sent to shareholders ahead of the company’s annual shareholder meeting scheduled for July 3. The meeting is being held virtually via audio broadcast online.

Marsh still earned $2.24 million in 2024, according to the same proxy statement, which was filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission earlier this month.

That’s 34 times the median salary at Plug Power, according to the proxy statement.

$1.02 - $1.03
$1.04 - $1.05

Here is the approximate number of Plug shares voted as of 4:00 pm EST today. Approximately 10% or 110,000,000 shares voted to date. That is an increase from yesterday’s total of approximately 6.1% or 67,000,000 shares voted. I don.t have a breakdown of retail vs institutional shares. Plug needs to get to 50% plus 1 shares to get the proposal authorizations they are requesting. Thank you to those who have voted so far. I will try to get vote totals in the coming days.

hydrogen will have some limited use somewhere...but it wont thrive anywhere...

the people who actually have the power and understand money were NEVER going to let Biden throw trillions of dollars around like it was confetti in a parade...they were NEVER going to let the hundreds of billions in tax credits, grants, free money etc happen...they knew he would be a one term president and they knew who was going to walk in and take that seat behind the resolution desk...

thats why the treasury took their sweet time looking over all the documents and never really made a decision allowing any of biden's BS to happen...they allowed a few things...but just a little to make it look like they were trying...lol...they knew there would be a big beautiful bill coming...a bill that made sense...and for the most part, hydrogen makes NO economic sense...

so its like i have been saying all along...hydrogen is out and nuclear and solar is in...there will be cuts to solar but solar is here to stay...they will survive quite nicely...

i would imagine if someone wants to go with hydrogen, the Fed Gov will likely assist, but no, they wont be throwing money at it...that was CLEARLY never going to happen...

Why buy Plug when you can get the pieces for a dime on the dollar at this point. It can go up know I after all these years just sold. I will continue to watch this shite show, but don't see a good conclusion anymore. I just wish I would have listened to my inner self and the numerous signs I ignored. I'd sue, but what would be left to get. They really mislead all of us longs and sold us a bill of goods. Too bad Andy chose to mislead us and many of us, including me bought his pitch. If I live 100 years maybe I get back the 99% of what I lost in this mess.

The current conditions present the most favorable window for a potential acquisition of Plug Power. The valuation is deeply depressed, and management appears to be under significant pressure.
If there is an interested party targeting Plug Power, it must act before the shareholders' meeting and secure majority support, before Plug can approve an increase in authorized shares as a defense against the takeover.
