I am looking at NIO as a 3-5 year time frame investment.

Nio's swap stations in Shanghai close to profitability, CEO says

The trend in the battery swap business is getting better, and Nio's (NYSE: NIO) battery swap stations in Shanghai are basically close to profitability, said William Li, the electric vehicle (EV) maker's founder, chairman and CEO.

Li mentioned this yesterday in a Weibo post when he shared a clip of a replay of a live video broadcast he made on February 8 on Douyin, a short-form video platform.

This year would be a big year for Nio's battery swap stations build-out, as the company seeks to make the power-up experience as convenient as gas refueling for users of Nio, Onvo, and partner car brands, Li said.

During the live broadcast, Shen Fei, Nio's vice president for energy business, mentioned that the company is providing more than 9,000 battery swap services per day in Shanghai, and will soon be approaching 10,000 per day.

"I can boldly tell you that in the vast majority of places in Shanghai at the moment, you can definitely make money if you can build a battery swap station," Shen said.

Shanghai-based Nio currently has 3,110 battery swap stations in China, with Shanghai having the most at 183, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Battery Swap subscriptions are for the life of the vehicle… 10-12 years. For NIO, profits will not be determined by how many vehicles they sell in a given time. Profits will be determined by how many NIO battery swap subscription vehicles are on the road in a given time. The potential is astronomical.

The higher power usage of more EVs on the road and faster charging will make it impossible to meet demand without upgrading the electrical grid or implementing power storage and management.

The Firefly/Subscription is the game changer for NIO. Millions can afford the lower end vehicles as proven by Xpeng January sales.

Chinese exports to the USA accounts for only 15 percent of total exports. Chinese exports are rapidly increasing in BRICS and Belt and Road Initiative.
US citizens will pay more for consumer electronics like smartphones, computers, and related components. Many everyday consumer items like clothing, toys, household appliances, and furniture will become more expensive.

Tariffs are just a hidden tax on US citizens collected from China A $1000 Smart Phone will now cost the US consumer $1100. $100 will go to the US government.
