GSPI and its Consortium are involved in the production of green sustainable goods including renewable resources like algae, biodiesel and clean-burning biofuels, cellulosic ethanol and other products, lubricants and additives, nanotechnology, energy saving industrial coatings and devices that reduce emissions, improve fuel economy in vehicles, machinery and power plants. Like many other companies, GSPI has been affected by adverse global economic conditions since 2008. Early in 2011, GSPI announced a new business strategy to increase revenue by taking advantage of its market position and technology developments to allow other companies to market and sell GSPI products through license agreements and technology transfers. This would only be available to other companies who already provide green and energy efficient products.
